Board
Officers The GTA Board recently elected
new officers. Thank you to the commitments by:
Jeff Nicol, President; Kent Heighton,
Vice-President; Gary Rains, Secretary; Brad
Schrick, Treasurer. A big thank you to Nancy
White, stepping down as Board President, for her
long-time dedication to the GTA!
Job Fair GTA
Members Hitchsource and Custom Interface
participated in the GTA's table at the Gorge Job
Fair. A number of other GTA members had their own
tables, including Insitu and Innovative Composite
Engineering. Hundreds of people attended to learn
about these companies and employment
opportunities.
Youth Loaner Robotics
Program The GTA's Youth Loaner Robotic
Program has been moving Lego Mindstorm kits to
schools and youth groups around the Gorge, thanks
to a Google grant to purchase the equipment. Hood
River High School, Sherman County High School,
Westside Elementary School and the Gorge Robotics
Club have all had a great time with the robots. If
your school or youth group would like to borrow
them, contact Jessica.

RubyGorge Many
thanks to Columbia Gorge Community College for
offering meeting space to RubyGorge, a Ruby User's
Group. Everyone is welcome to come learn this
programming language on every other Thursday at
6pm, Room 311 at CGCC's Indian Creek Campus. The

Meeting April 27
Gorge Aerospace Technology
Update
|
Join us to connect with the regional
tech business community and get an update on the
latest technological innovations happening at
Gorge aerospace companies. Representatives from Cloud Cap Technologyand Insitu will be on hand for a
show and tell with videos to demonstrate their
recent break-throughs. It is estimated that
aviation and aerospace-related businesses in the
Gorge (Hood River, Wasco, Klickitat and Skamania
Counties) support over 1000 employees and generate
millions in revenue. Their technological
innovations are being used by everything from
commercial airlines to local law enforcement
agencies to firefighting, coastline surveillance
and border patrol. As always, the meeting includes
light snacks and plenty of time for
networking.

The
Northwest Connectory is an online database with
detailed profiles of Pacific Northwest companies
across all industries at every level of the supply
chain. This service was developed by Business
Oregon and the Pacific Northwest Defense Coalition
to help potential clients identify Northwest
companies who can meet their needs- and to
continue to build value-added supply chains.
Detailed profiles are submitted by
companies themselves and include fields that
describe specific capabilities, products and
services. And
the connectory is FREE for businesses to join or

Commercial
Building Energy Efficiency Assistance May 10
Deadline

The
US Department of Energy's national laboratories
are seeking proposals for commercial buildings to
be part of the U.S. Department of Energy's
Commercial Building Partnerships initiative.
They've issued a Call for Projects, asking
building owners, developers, tenants, and
operators to submit project proposals for new and
existing energy-efficient buildings. Online
applications are due by 3:00 p.m. Eastern on May
10, 2010. Successful applicants will work with
researchers at the national laboratories and with
technical experts under contract to the national
laboratories to achieve energy goals. Participants
will receive no direct funding, but will have
access to the technical expertise of both national
laboratory personnel and consultants.

Cleantech
Open 2010 May 22

The 2010 Cleantech Open Competition for
clean technology startups is underway, with final
deadlines approaching. May 4: Those
interested in entering should consider attending
the Executive Summary Webinar from 4:00 to 6:00pm.

contestants prepare their Executive Summary

Oregon
Training Network Introduction
|
Initially launched as a partnership with
Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski and the Software
Association of Oregon to better train the state's
technology workforce, OTN has evolved into an
independent training network that now caters to a
broader group of professionals in a myriad of
industries, at various points in career
development, working for businesses and
organizations of all sizes.
OTN offers courses in a number of topic
areas, including software, IT/Clean Tech, Internet
marketing/social media, communications/teams,
business development/ sales and business
strategies/leadership. OTN also routinely refines
course offerings based on student feedback,
industry needs and overarching trends.
Courses are located in the Portland metro
area and registration is open to everyone (fees
involved). A few of their upcoming offerings

Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Forum, April

Columbia Gorge Community College and the
Gorge Tech Alliance are hosting live stream
presentations of two forums with the Oregon
Gubernatorial Candidates. The forums are being
presented by the Software Association of Oregon,
Oregon Business Association, Oregon Entrepreneurs
Network and Portland Business Alliance. GTA
members can register at the SAO member rate to
attend in Portland ( register here). Alternatively,
everyone is welcome to watch for free at CGCC.

Tech
Discovery Day, May 22
|
The
first Tech Discovery Day will encourage students
to get involved and excited about future career
opportunities in the broad range of fields that
use technology. The day will include hands-on
demonstrations from technology businesses and
schools, the GTA's youth robotics kits to play
with, demonstrations of large robotics
competitions and other great activities.
One element of the event will be a sculpture
competitionfor all ages. Working alone or
as an age-level team, participants must create a
visual representation of technology using only
"found" materials. Age groups include 4th-5th
grades, 6th- 8th grades, 9th-12th grades and
Adults. Sculptures will be displayed at the
event and the winner chosen by the vote of event
attendees. Prizes will be given to the winners.To

2010 Oregon Connections
Telecommunications Conference October
in Hood River

your calendars! With the theme of "Oregon
Telecom: The New Age of Broadband," the 15th
annual Oregon Connections Telecommunications
Conference is scheduled for October 21 and 22 at
the Hood River Inn. The Oregon
Connections Telecommunications Conference draws
attendees from all regions of the state to share
ideas, experiences and knowledge about
telecommunications. The 2010 conference
will explore the importance and value of broadband
telecommunications for business, government,
education, healthcare, public safety, communities
and individuals, and the renewed priority interest
in broadband funding, technologies and
