REMINDER: GTA Meeting April
28

Join us for our April meeting featuring
Classroom Partnerships with Technology Industries!
When: Tuesday,
April 28, 2009. 6:30 p.m. Where:
CenterPointe Community Bank, 2500 Cascade
Avenue, Hood River, Oregon We're
looking forward to a great presentation by Alan
Cunningham, head of the Science and Technology
Department with Arlington School District and the
2008 TechStart Technology Educator of the Year.
He'll be discussing how the technology industry
can get involved in the classroom to educate our
future technology leaders and the success he's had
with programs at Arlington High School. (This
presentation was originally scheduled for the
January 2009 meeting but was canceled due to
weather.) As always, the discussion
will be followed by an opportunity to meet and
network with GTA members and guests.
This event is free. Snacks and beverages
will be provided and non-members are welcome.

Clean Tech Open Seeking
Entrants
|
The Clean Tech Open is
launching its first Pacific Northwest competition
this year. This event is meant to serve as an
innovation catalyst, providing the infrastructure
and processes to develop and motivate
entrepreneurs and early-stage companies creating
clean, environmentally sustainable technologies.
Entering teams of at least two people must
have a potentially viable clean technology
business idea and less than $300,000 in outside
funding at the time of entry to the competition.
Twelve regional winners receive cash/services
worth at least $50,000 and compete for the
national prize of cash/services worth an
additional $250,000. Interested parties must
register and submit an executive summary by May 30,
2009.

2009. Qualifications are a Master's degree

Member News Spotlight: Insitu
|
Insitu, a founding GTA
member and sponsor, had some great news this
month. First, an April 1 press release from the US
Department of Defense announced that Insitu is
being awarded a $20.9 million contract for
supplies related to their ScanEagle Unmanned Air
Systems. Work will be performed in Bingen and is
expected to be completed in July 2009. Click

Next, the Port of Skamania County
announced that Insitu will be leasing 46,000
square feet of space on the Stevenson waterfront.
The company is not abandoning its Bingen
facilities and will be hiring additional people
for Stevenson. Click

ICE
|
GTA member Innovative
Composite Engineering (ICE) also had good news:
they announced plans to develop a new business
campus in White Salmon. Currently leasing 9,700
square feet from the Port of Klickitat in Bingen,
ICE found property in White Salmon to house a new
52,000 square foot space to help the company grow.
Steve Maier, president/CEO of ICE, told The
Enterprise newspaper that the company anticipates
60 to 80 employees working at the new campus by
the end of the year. Click
