Washington
Launches Quarterly Aerospace Bulletin

The Washington State Department of
Commerce has launched the inaugural edition of the
Washington State Quarterly
Aerospace Bulletin. The goal of the bulletin
is "to raise awareness and disseminate information
on the Washington state aerospace cluster, local
companies, and
technologies." |

Robotics
Fair on Jan 10
|
Local robotics enthusiasts will
be demonstrating their robots and challenging each
other at a free event on Jan 10. Local 4H teams that are part of the
international First Lego League tournament will
compete in robot design and performance. These
9-14 year olds have developed robots that attempt
complicated missions.
Participants in the Monday night Gorge
Robotics Club will also demonstrate their robots
that vary from orchard sprayers to mechanized
puppets.
There will also be a new opportunity for teams or
organizations to sign-up for the GTA's free loaner
robot kits, purchased through our recent Google
grant.

GTA
Announces Google Speakers Series on the Leading
Edge of Technology
|
Last
October the GTA was awarded a Google grant for its
Technology Education Program. The majority of
funds will support youth robotics programs in the
Gorge with loaner robots and laptops. The
remainder of the grant will allow the GTA to host
a series of four speaker events in 2010 on the
leading edge of technology in specific areas.
The first event will present The Leading Edge of
Technology in Agriculture. Robotics and
other technological innovations are being
developed for use in agricultural operations in
ways that will improve the efficiency of farming.
Clark Seavert with Oregon State University is part
of a collaborative effort called the Comprehensive
Automation for Specialty Crops that will benefit
the Gorge's many orchards. Clark and others will
present their work at a free, public event on
March 16. Join us for this first event and stay
tuned as the other topics are announced!

River PubTalk™, January 19 |
The next PubTalk returns to Hood River
with keynote speaker Kari Waldhaus from The
Entrepreneur's Source discussing "Everything You
Wanted to Know about Franchising but were Afraid
to Ask". PubTalk is an informal networking
event including a keynote speaker and 10 minute
pitches from two early stage companies. These
companies are most commonly seeking advisors or
capital investment and often present at a PubTalk
in preparation for the Gorge Angel Conference,
scheduled for April 27, 2010. Meeting Details:

Washington's
Innovation Summit 2010, presented by
WA Technology Center

The Washington Technology Center
will be hosting the Innovation Summit 2010
on April 9. Sustaining a world-class economy
through innovation and industry development
is a collaborative effort. As part of this effort,
the Summit will bring together the region's
leading companies and thought
leaders for a full day devoted to
accelerating creativity and innovation.
The three Industry Tracks include:
The luncheon panel features
three distinguished experts
exploring "Future Promise - Future Provocation:
Opportunities and Challenges in the Next 25
Years." Steven Ashby of Pacific Northwest
National Laboratory, Greg Bear, a noted
author and Homeland Security consultant, and Dr.
Bonnie Dunbar, president and CEO of the Museum of
Flight and former astronaut, will give insights
and a vision of what the future holds for
innovators.
